Achievements

      The members of HGD&R have a long history of service to numerous organizations, councils and campaigns.  They have committed their time and energy to many noteworthy groups.  The following is a list of past and present achievements:
 
2006 Legislative Session Update

HGD&R represented four clients this session and had four bills successfully passed through the legislature and signed by the governor.
  • SB 1355 appropriates $7.1 million to TGen, a nonprofit medical research center, to be used specifically for autism research.
  • SB 1390 allows the department of revenue to consider the depreciation of property due to changes in technology when valuing telecommunications.
  • HB 2212 prohibits a city or town from petitioning for annexation of a territory for at least forty-five days after completing a previous unsuccessful annexation attempt.
  • HB 2702 extends the length of a time the Rio Nuevo tax district in downtown Tucson can receive state funds.
  Boards and Appointments        
  • Member, Advisory Council on Intergovernmental Relations by the United States President. Members of ACIR are appointed by the United States President and have included members of Congress, governors, state legislators, mayors, county commissioners, and members of the Federal Executive Branch
  • Member, the Secretary of Labor's National Commission on "Excellence In The Public Sector Through Labor Management Cooperation"
  • Founding board member, State Legislative Leaders Foundation
  • Founding board member, National Democratic Legislative Leaders Foundation

  • Member, the Board of Directors of the Phoenix Memorial Hospital Foundation
  • Board member, Community Care Network (a drug and mental health treatment provider)

  • Member, Board of Directors of NCCJ (National Conference on Community & Justice)

  • Board of Directors, Multiple Sclerosis Society Arizona/Nevada Chapter
  • Past President, Arizona Recreation Center for the Handicapped

  • Board member, South Mountain Community Highway Association
  • Co-Chair, Flagstaff Mayor's Advisory Council, Citizen's for Transportation Solutions
  • Member and Chair, Governance Committee for the Governor's Vision 21 Task Force
  • Governor's Bio-initiative task force in 2002, primarily responsible for fundraising, helped to raise $100 million and led to the formation of the Translational Genomics Research Institute (TGen)

 Community Involvement

  • Helped found Kids Voting in 1988 which eventually expanded its activities into 40 states
  • Helped raise more than $15 million for the Desert Botanical Garden's 1999-00 capital campaign
  • Recipient of the Arizona Community Foundation Bert Getz Civic Leadership Award
  • Valley Leadership graduate
